What is Couples Therapy?

Couples therapy helps partners improve communication, rebuild trust, and strengthen their emotional connection.

At The Center for Relationships, we draw from the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy, two evidence-based approaches that focus on understanding emotion, resolving conflict, and deepening intimacy.

Couples therapy focuses on repairing the emotional bond, increasing empathy, and helping partners respond to each other’s needs in healthier, more connected ways.

  • Escalating conflict cycles where arguments repeat without resolution

  • Emotional disconnection or a sense of drifting apart

  • Breaks in trust, whether through betrayal, withdrawal, infidelity, or unspoken resentment

  • Communication breakdowns that leave one or both partners feeling unheard

  • Erosion of friendship and shared meaning, when the relationship feels more like survival than support

What is Family Therapy?

Families are complex systems. When one part of the system is under strain, everyone feels it.

Family therapy is about understanding these patterns and creating a healthier balance, where communication is clearer, relationships are stronger, and each member feels supported.

My work with families draws from strategic and structural family therapy, two approaches that help identify patterns that keep the family stuck and create practical, lasting change.

We’ll focus on how each person’s role, boundaries, and communication style interact. We create small, intentional shifts that bring the system back into harmony.

  • Constant tension or frequent arguments that make home life feel exhausting

  • Parenting stress or conflict around discipline and children’s behavior

  • Feeling disconnected, when one or more family members feel unseen or unheard

  • Transitions and role changes, such as adolescence, blended families, and college launches

  • External stressors straining home life, like school, work, or caregiving pressures
